MANILA — The Department of Transportation announced Saturday that it would release another tranche of financial assistance for transport workers affected by escalating fuel costs. The aid will be distributed through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program administered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The move comes as the government continues to grapple with the impact of volatile global oil markets on the domestic transport sector. Rising fuel prices have pressured jeepney operators, taxi drivers, and other public utility vehicle operators, prompting calls for government intervention.
