The Department of Transportation formally executed a right-of-way agreement with the Villar Group of Companies on Thursday, clearing a key hurdle for the expansion of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 into Las Piñas. The Light Rail Transit Authority successfully negotiated the acquisition of roughly 4,465 square meters of land from the business conglomerate, according to DOTr officials.

The agreement represents significant progress in the broader effort to extend Metro Manila's light rail network southward. The new Las Piñas station is expected to enhance connectivity for residents in the southern portions of the capital region and support urban development in the area.

The DOTr did not immediately disclose additional details regarding the timeline for construction or the total investment allocated to the Las Piñas station project. The acquisition of right-of-way, however, typically marks an essential preliminary step before major infrastructure development can commence.
