DPWH cuts proposed 2027 budget projects by nearly half through review

MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways has significantly streamlined its proposed 2027 budget by removing overlapping and duplicate infrastructure projects, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon announced Wednesday.
The reduction cuts the project list to just over 11,000 from the department's historical average of around 20,000 undertakings, representing a substantial decrease in portfolio size. Dizon attributed the consolidation to implementation of a rigorous project evaluation framework designed to identify and eliminate redundancies across the agency's infrastructure plans.
The move comes amid broader efforts to improve budget efficiency and accountability in public works spending. By weeding out duplicate initiatives, the DPWH aims to ensure that limited resources are directed toward priority infrastructure projects with minimal overlap and maximum impact on national development priorities.
