DPWH launches multi-pronged approach to combat Dagupan flooding

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has outlined a comprehensive strategy to mitigate flooding problems in Dagupan City, partnering with local government units to implement the initiative.

Key components of the flood management plan include dredging operations beginning from upstream sections of the Sinocalan waterway, deployment of mobile pumping equipment, and construction of water detention basins designed to retain excess runoff during heavy rainfall events.

Authorities identified upstream dredging as an immediate priority to improve water flow and reduce inundation risks in the city proper. The detention basins will serve as temporary storage facilities to manage surplus water during peak periods, while mobile pumps will provide rapid drainage capability when static measures prove insufficient.

The DPWH coordinated with local officials in Dagupan and neighboring municipalities to ensure integrated flood control efforts across the watershed. Engineering teams are expected to assess site conditions and finalize implementation schedules in coordination with municipal authorities.

The intervention aims to reduce the frequency and severity of flooding that has historically disrupted commerce and displaced residents in the Pangasinan city.
