DPWH Mimaropa cashiers testify in graft trial of Zaldy Co

MANILA — Cashiers employed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Mimaropa regional office provided testimony Wednesday in the ongoing trial of former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co and his co-accused in multiple graft cases.
The witnesses appeared before the court to detail their knowledge of financial transactions related to an allegedly anomalous flood control project. As accounting personnel, their testimony is expected to establish a record of fund disbursements and procurement procedures connected to the questioned infrastructure initiative.
The criminal charges against Co and the other respondents pertain to alleged irregularities in project implementation, budgeting, and fund management. The case represents one of several corruption investigations involving government officials and infrastructure spending in the Mimaropa region, which comprises Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan provinces.
The testimony from DPWH Mimaropa staff adds to the documentary and witness evidence being presented in the trial.
