MANILA — Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon appealed to lawmakers on Wednesday for assistance in securing additional budget allocations to expand the department's engineering staff.

Dizon made the request during a House of Representatives appropriations committee briefing on the DPWH's proposed budget, citing concerns over the agency's capacity to manage its expanding portfolio of projects.

The appeal underscores ongoing challenges faced by the infrastructure agency as it oversees multiple concurrent construction and development initiatives across the country. The DPWH has identified the hiring of more project engineers as critical to effectively supervising and implementing its expanding workload.

The budget request will now be deliberated by lawmakers as part of the broader legislative process for national spending allocation in the coming fiscal year. The outcome could significantly influence the agency's operational capabilities in delivering infrastructure development goals.
