The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced plans to deploy newly acquired dredging and desilting equipment to flood-affected areas throughout Bulacan province, marking an escalation of efforts to combat the region's persistent flooding crisis.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon made the commitment on Friday during a meeting with provincial officials in Malolos City, assuring stakeholders that the equipment deployment would serve as a critical interim measure while authorities work toward longer-term solutions.

Bulacan, a key province north of Metro Manila, has struggled with recurring flooding that affects thousands of residents and disrupts economic activity. The acquisition of specialized machinery reflects growing concern among national and local government officials over the need to improve water management infrastructure and maintenance of drainage systems.

Dizon's announcement came as he met with provincial Governor Daniel Fernando and local mayors to assess the province's flooding challenges and coordinate relief and rehabilitation efforts. The deployment is expected to target priority drainage areas identified as particularly vulnerable to seasonal inundation.
