Dr Mahathir expresses gratitude following Hasmah's passing

Dr Mahathir Mohamad has broken his silence following the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, with a statement expressing his profound gratitude to those who have offered their condolences and prayers.

In his first public remarks since her passing, the nonagenarian former premier conveyed his appreciation for the widespread show of support from individuals across the nation and beyond. The 99-year-old said he had been deeply moved by the prayers and well-wishes extended to his family during their time of bereavement.

Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, who was 86, had been a prominent figure in Malaysian public life throughout her husband's long political career. She was widely respected for her charitable work and advocacy in healthcare and education.

The couple, who were married for more than six decades, were regarded as one of Malaysia's most enduring partnerships. Their relationship spanned periods of significant political change in the country, during which Tun Dr Siti Hasmah maintained a dignified public presence alongside her husband's roles in government.
