DRI Busts Drug Smuggling Ring, Seizes 18kg of Synthetic Drugs

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has cracked down on an illicit drug operation, seizing substantial quantities of controlled substances in simultaneous raids conducted across two major technology hubs on August 25.
In operations spanning Bengaluru and Pune, DRI teams recovered approximately 18 kilograms of amphetamine and MDMA—both listed as prohibited narcotics under Indian law. The contraband, often trafficked through courier networks targeting urban centers with high youth populations, carries significant street value in local markets.
Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizures. Officials are investigating their roles in what appears to be an organized distribution network. The DRI has registered cases under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with further interrogation underway to identify potential suppliers and downstream distribution channels.
The coordinated action underscores increased vigilance by federal narcotics agencies against synthetic drug trafficking, which has emerged as a growing concern in metropolitan areas across South Asia. Investigators are examining possible links to larger smuggling operations and international drug trafficking syndicates.
