DRI Busts Gold Smuggling Ring Operated by Chinese Nationals

Federal revenue investigators have successfully broken up an international gold smuggling operation run by Chinese nationals operating in India. The enforcement action resulted in the recovery of precious metal valued at ₹1.10 crore that had been ingeniously concealed within the motor mechanism of a treadmill exercise machine.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence made the breakthrough while investigating smuggling networks engaged in illegally importing gold into India, circumventing customs duties and regulations. The contraband was discovered during a routine examination that revealed the sophisticated concealment method employed by the syndicate members.

According to DRI officials, this represents a novel smuggling technique not previously encountered by the agency.
