The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized foreign currency valued at approximately ₹1.56 crore from two passengers at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The confiscated amount includes USD 1,64,200, Malaysian Ringgit 3,773, and Singapore Dollar 2, officials said.
The interception was made during routine passenger screening at the airport. The passengers were unable to produce valid documentation for carrying the foreign currency across international borders, leading to the seizure under customs regulations.
This action underscores ongoing enforcement efforts by the DRI to prevent undeclared currency movements that could facilitate money laundering or other illicit financial activities. The agency maintains regular surveillance at major airports and border checkpoints across the country to detect attempts at smuggling foreign exchange.
The seized currency has been documented and processed according to legal procedures. The matter remains under investigation to determine the source and intended destination of the funds, officials added.
