The suspect, arrested following the incident in Johor Bahru, was produced in court for remand proceedings on Monday. Johor police confirmed that the man had been driving the lorry in a dangerous manner, including against the flow of traffic, prompting officers to pursue the vehicle across an extended distance.
The chase ended when the stolen lorry allegedly collided with a pursuing police car, causing damage to the patrol vehicle. No serious injuries were reported in connection with the ramming incident, though investigations into the circumstances remain ongoing.
Police have launched a formal investigation into the matter, with charges expected to be filed following the conclusion of their inquiries. The suspect's remand has been granted to allow officers to gather additional evidence and interview witnesses connected to the incident.
The pursuit highlights ongoing concerns about vehicle theft and reckless driving in the southern state. Authorities have urged the public to report any information relating to stolen vehicles or dangerous driving incidents to the nearest police station.
