Congress leader Sachin Pilot has sounded the alarm over Punjab's growing drug problem, warning that illicit substances are spreading through the state at an alarming rate. Addressing the issue during a recent statement, Pilot claimed that chemical drugs are reaching Punjab residents faster than conventional consumer goods like pizza and cold drinks.
Pilot attributed the crisis to cross-border smuggling, alleging that narcotics are being trafficked into Punjab from Pakistan. He contended that the drug menace represents a serious threat to the state's youth and social fabric, demanding immediate intervention from authorities.
Criticizing both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government and the opposition BJP, Pilot accused them of failing to effectively combat drug trafficking and its consequences. He argued that despite their political differences, both parties had neglected to prioritize enforcement measures and rehabilitation efforts needed to address the crisis.
The Congress leader's remarks highlight the persistent challenge Punjab faces with drug addiction and trafficking. The state has long struggled with substance abuse, particularly among younger populations, leading to repeated calls from political leaders and civil society for comprehensive anti-drug strategies involving border security enhancement and de-addiction programs.
