Drug trafficking extends beyond Kelantan, deputy MB warns

Kelantan's geographical location along an international frontier has made it particularly susceptible to drug trafficking operations, according to Fadzli Hassan, the state's deputy menteri besar. The proximity to cross-border routes provides criminal syndicates with easier access to the state, he noted.

Fadzli's comments underline a broader regional concern about narcotics distribution networks operating across Southeast Asia. The deputy leader emphasised that the drug problem transcends state boundaries and requires a coordinated approach involving multiple jurisdictions and federal agencies.

The issue reflects ongoing challenges faced by Malaysian authorities in combating transnational drug smuggling operations. Border states, in particular, have become focal points for enforcement efforts as syndicates exploit geographical vulnerabilities to move contraband across international boundaries.

Kelantan's position as a gateway state has drawn increased attention from law enforcement agencies tasked with intercepting drug shipments before they reach domestic markets. The challenge remains significant despite intensified border monitoring and cooperative efforts with neighbouring jurisdictions.
