TACLOBAN CITY—The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has significantly enhanced its disaster relief operations in Eastern Visayas through expanded storage facilities and targeted food assistance programs. The initiative, launched Monday, marks a critical step in strengthening the agency's capacity to respond to emergencies across the region.

The DSWD inaugurated a 1,200-square-meter extension of its Regional Resource Operations Center, substantially increasing the space available for storing relief supplies and emergency provisions. The expansion allows the agency to stockpile essential items more efficiently, enabling faster deployment during disasters.

As part of the same effort, three municipalities in Eastern Samar received community kitchen equipment designed to facilitate large-scale food preparation and distribution. The equipment will enable local government units to mobilize rapid food assistance programs when families are displaced or affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.

The investments reflect the DSWD's commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness in the Eastern Visayas region, which faces regular exposure to typhoons and other natural hazards. By pre-positioning resources and equipment, the agency aims to reduce response times and improve the quality of assistance delivered to vulnerable communities during crises.
