MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development voiced concerns Tuesday over a significant budget reduction for the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program in next year's proposed spending plan.
During the House committee on appropriations' briefing on the DSWD's 2027 budget allocation, department officials highlighted the impact of the funding cut on the program's ability to assist Filipinos facing emergency situations.
The AICS program provides emergency financial assistance to individuals and families experiencing unexpected crises including natural disasters, accidents, and other calamities. The program serves as a critical safety net for vulnerable populations across the country.
The funding reduction comes as lawmakers finalize the National Expenditure Program for the coming fiscal year, with various government agencies presenting budgetary proposals and concerns to the House appropriations panel.
