The DSWD Mimaropa regional office has escalated its humanitarian response to residents impacted by the combination of the southwest monsoon and tropical depression Neneng, which has swept across multiple provinces in the Mindoro, Romblon, and Palawan (Mimaropa) region. As of Thursday, the weather disturbances have affected 292,600 individuals across four provinces, with 283 barangays experiencing significant disruption to daily life and livelihoods.
The affected areas span Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and Palawan, with the DSWD mobilizing resources and personnel to deliver emergency assistance to the hardest-hit communities. The agency is coordinating with local government units to ensure rapid distribution of food aid, temporary shelter, and other critical support to displaced residents.
The simultaneous impact of the monsoon and tropical depression has compounded flooding and landslide risks across the region, prompting authorities to maintain heightened alert status. DSWD officials are monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to scale up response operations should weather conditions worsen or the number of affected persons increase.
