DSWD stockpiles 24,000 food packs in Ilocos ahead of weather threat

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has moved to bolster its disaster response capacity in the Ilocos Region by stockpiling 24,029 family food packs at strategic locations and prepositioning areas throughout the province.

Three truckloads containing 5,179 of the food packs arrived at the DSWD Field Office in San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur on Saturday, August 29, as part of the broader effort to ensure adequate supplies are in place. The supplies have been distributed to various warehouses and designated prepositioning centers across the region.

The positioning of the emergency food supplies reflects heightened preparedness measures as the Ilocos Region continues to experience heavy rainfall. The DSWD initiative aims to enable swift response capabilities should adverse weather conditions lead to flooding, landslides, or other emergencies requiring humanitarian assistance.

Family food packs typically contain basic food items designed to sustain affected households during disaster situations. By maintaining stocks at multiple strategic points, the DSWD seeks to minimize response time and ensure affected communities receive aid promptly.
