DSWD stockpiles relief supplies as Super Typhoon Rosal threatens Ilocos

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Ilocos Region has positioned 128,843 relief items to support families potentially impacted by Super Typhoon Rosal, known internationally as Champi, which crossed into the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday, October 20.

Pageudpud, a coastal municipality in Ilocos Norte, was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as the typhoon approached the northern Philippines. The DSWD's stockpiled supplies include both food and nonfood items intended for rapid distribution to affected communities.

The Ilocos Region, located in the northwestern part of Luzon, remains on alert as forecasters tracked the super typhoon's path. Regional disaster management officials coordinated with the DSWD to ensure adequate resources were pre-positioned in key locations ahead of the storm's arrival.

The advance preparation reflects the government's disaster response strategy of staging supplies before typhoons make landfall, reducing delays in delivering humanitarian aid to displaced persons and communities affected by severe weather.
