CALAPAN CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has launched a comprehensive mapping exercise of Oriental Mindoro's calamansi supply chain, positioning the province's signature citrus fruit for halal-certified export markets and enhanced domestic competitiveness.

The DTI's Supply Chain and Logistics Group is undertaking the initiative in partnership with the Philippine Association of Service Industries Inc. (PASIA), according to officials overseeing the project. The effort seeks to identify key stakeholders, bottlenecks, and opportunities across the entire production and distribution network—from farm gate to consumer.

The halal-readiness component represents a significant market expansion strategy, as Muslim-majority markets across Southeast Asia and the Middle East increasingly require halal certification for imported agricultural products. By establishing certified supply chains, Oriental Mindoro's calamansi producers could access premium pricing and larger international markets currently closed to uncertified suppliers.

The mapping project is expected to provide a detailed framework for industry consolidation, improved logistics efficiency, and compliance with international food safety and halal standards. Officials said the initiative aligns with broader provincial efforts to diversify economic opportunities beyond traditional agricultural practices.
