Dussehra 2024: Afternoon 'Vijay Muhurat' marks auspicious time for prayers

Dussehra, one of Hinduism's most significant festivals, will be celebrated on October 20 with traditional observances honouring Lord Ram, Goddess Durga and commemorating the victory of good over evil. The festival holds deep religious significance across India, with devotees performing rituals that include weapon worship and prayers to divine deities.

According to Hindu astrological calculations, the 'Vijay Muhurat'—considered the most auspicious time for conducting prayers and rituals—will occur on October 20 from 1:59 PM to 2:45 PM. This 46-minute window is regarded as the optimal period for performing Dussehra pujas and ceremonies.

The 'Vijay Muhurat' or 'victory time' holds particular importance in Hindu tradition, as it is believed to enhance the spiritual efficacy of religious observances. Devotees are advised to schedule their worship, weapon blessings, and ritual offerings during this designated window to align with cosmic and astrological principles.

Beyond the specific timing, Dussehra celebrations encompass broader rituals including the symbolic burning of effigies representing demonic forces, community gatherings, and prayers seeking blessings for prosperity and righteousness. The festival concludes the nine-day Navratri period and marks a significant occasion in the Hindu calendar across India.
