The Quezon City Regional Trial Court postponed the scheduled arraignment of Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday, delaying proceedings on the serious allegations against her.
Duterte faces three counts of grave threats stemming from public statements she made last November. The remarks, directed at President Marcos Jr. and his family as well as former Speaker Romualdez, prompted the filing of charges that could carry significant legal consequences if she is convicted.
The vice president appeared before the court for the scheduled proceeding, which ultimately did not proceed as initially planned. No date was immediately announced for the rescheduled arraignment.
The case marks an escalation in tensions between Duterte and the Marcos administration. It represents one of the most serious legal challenges facing the vice president since she assumed office and comes amid ongoing political friction between the two officials and their respective political camps.
The arraignment deferment gives both the prosecution and defense additional time to prepare their respective cases before the court proceedings formally begin.
