Duterte confident ahead of impeachment trial, legal team says

MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte's lead defense counsel Shiela Sison said the VP is ready to defend herself in her ongoing impeachment trial and is unafraid of its outcome.
"She does not shrink from accountability, nor does she fear the outcome of this impeachment trial," Sison said, according to reports.
The statement follows a procedural vote in which 13 senators approved a motion to amend a July 6 ruling by Presiding Officer Senator Francis Escudero. The amendment addressed voting thresholds for the trial proceedings, clarifying the number of votes required for conviction.
Duterte faces impeachment charges in connection with controversial remarks she made about the government. Her legal team has signaled they intend to mount a vigorous defense throughout the trial process.
The impeachment proceedings continue as the Senate works through procedural matters and hears arguments from both the prosecution and defense teams.
