Willis, based in Banburyshire in England, was recognised at the awards ceremony held in Telford for his extensive voluntary contributions to raising awareness of dyslexia and improving access to support systems. Despite facing dyslexia himself, he has channelled his personal experience into helping others navigate complex support networks.
In a bid to formalise his community efforts, Willis founded the Banburyshire Advice Centre, which serves as a resource for residents seeking guidance through bureaucratic processes and accessing available assistance. The centre has become a cornerstone of local support infrastructure, helping individuals and families connect with essential services.
His quarter-century of campaigning has made a significant impact on community engagement with dyslexia-related issues, with colleagues crediting him with strengthening awareness and breaking down barriers to support. The award recognises both his personal achievements and his broader contribution to advocating for vulnerable populations in his region.
The Community Shining Star Award forms part of the annual Dyslexia Awards, which celebrate outstanding contributions to advancing dyslexia awareness and support across the United Kingdom.
