Early General Election Proposal Open to Study, Anwar Says

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has signalled openness to studying suggestions for holding the 16th general election ahead of schedule, according to remarks made on Wednesday.

However, Anwar stressed that the government's immediate focus remains on ensuring sustained economic development and improving the welfare of Malaysian citizens. The administration continues to prioritise its anti-corruption and anti-abuse of power agenda as key pillars of its governance.

The comments come as ongoing speculation surrounds the timing of Malaysia's next general election, which is constitutionally due by August 2028. Various stakeholders have proposed bringing forward the poll date, though the government has not indicated any firm decision on the matter.
