TACLOBAN CITY — The Felipe Abrigo Memorial Hospital (FAMH) in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, officially reopened on October 7, marking a significant milestone in the region's recovery from Super Typhoon Yolanda's destructive impact more than a decade ago. The facility, located in Barangay 9A, will provide essential hospital services to residents of Guiuan and neighboring municipalities in Eastern Samar.

Super Typhoon Yolanda, known internationally as Typhoon Haiyan, struck the region in November 2013 with devastating force, leaving widespread destruction across Eastern Samar and other parts of the Visayas. The hospital's closure following the disaster left a critical gap in health care infrastructure for the province's residents.

The reopening of FAMH represents a key step in restoring public health services to communities that have long lacked adequate medical facilities. The reconstruction effort underscores ongoing efforts to rebuild critical infrastructure in areas most affected by the 2013 typhoon.

The hospital's return to operation is expected to improve access to emergency and inpatient care for thousands of residents across Guiuan and surrounding municipalities, addressing a longstanding need in the region's health care system.
