EC distributes over 8,500 postal ballots for Melaka state election

MELAKA — The Election Commission has distributed 8,569 postal ballot papers to qualified voters eligible to cast their votes by mail in the upcoming Melaka state election.

The move aims to facilitate voting for those unable to cast their ballots in person at polling stations on election day. Postal voting is particularly important for voters who may be outside their constituencies during the election period, including those working in other states or overseas.

In a statement, the Election Commission emphasised that all postal voters must strictly adhere to ballot secrecy regulations. Voters are required to mark their ballots in private and ensure that no other person witnesses the marking of their vote. The completed ballots must then be returned to the Commission within the prescribed timeframe.

The Commission cautioned that any breach of ballot secrecy could result in legal consequences. Voters have been urged to follow all instructions provided with their postal ballot papers carefully and to contact their local Election Commission office should they require clarification on the voting process.

The distribution of postal ballots forms part of the Election Commission's comprehensive preparations to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process for the Melaka state election.
