ECI Reallocates IT Functions; Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Assumes Oversight

The Election Commission of India has restructured its administrative hierarchy with a new work allocation order dated October 4, bringing enhanced oversight to its Information Technology operations. Under the revised arrangement, IT Head Seema Khanna is now required to route all files pertaining to IT and Information and Communication Technology matters through Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Pawan Kumar Sharma.

The reorganisation extends to grievance management, with Khanna also channeling Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRS/PGRS) related files through the same channel. This layered approval structure introduces an additional level of administrative scrutiny in the election body's technology and public grievance functions.

The move reflects the ECI's emphasis on maintaining transparent governance structures and ensuring accountability within its administrative framework. By centralising the oversight of IT operations and grievance redressal under a Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, the commission appears to be strengthening its institutional checks and balances during critical operational periods.

The fresh allocation order underscores ongoing adjustments within the ECI's administrative setup as the organisation manages its complex portfolio of election-related responsibilities across the country.
