India's economic growth will translate into meaningful national transformation only when its benefits are shared fairly between workers and businesses, according to Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran. Addressing an AIMA event, Nageswaran underscored that fairness forms the foundation of a healthy and sustainable market economy, rather than representing a charitable gesture.
"Growth changes the country only when it is shared honestly between those who do the work and those who put up the money," the CEA said. He reframed the fairness debate as a false choice between workers and businesses, presenting instead a unified economic framework where both parties have legitimate claims on the prosperity generated.
Within this bargain, Nageswaran noted that capital deserves fair returns while workers must receive meaningful compensation for their contribution. The CEA emphasized that equitable distribution directly strengthens economic fundamentals by ensuring consumers retain sufficient purchasing power to sustain demand for goods and services.
Nageswaran's remarks reflect growing focus within India's policymaking circles on balancing growth objectives with inclusive prosperity. His position suggests that worker welfare and business profitability need not be viewed as competing interests but rather as interdependent components of sustainable economic architecture.
