KUALA LUMPUR — Passenger fares for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will be determined and made public by the end of this year, transport authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Official pricing for the high-speed rail corridor connecting Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu has remained pending as the project approaches completion. The ministry has been coordinating with relevant stakeholders to establish competitive and sustainable fare structures that balance commercial viability with public accessibility.
The ECRL, one of Malaysia's largest infrastructure initiatives, is expected to transform regional connectivity and boost economic activity along the east coast. Once operational, the rail link will significantly reduce travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan, with further extensions planned.
Authorities have indicated that fare setting will take into account operational costs, market demand, and alignment with broader national transport policy objectives. The announcement represents a key milestone as the project transitions from construction phases toward its anticipated launch.
