ED arrests manufacturer in Tirumala temple ghee adulteration probe

The Enforcement Directorate's investigation into the Tirumala ghee adulteration scandal has widened with the arrest of Kailash Chand Mangla, identified as a key manufacturer in the supply chain. According to the agency, Mangla was instrumental in producing substandard ghee valued at around ₹96 crore that was subsequently channelled to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), one of India's most prominent Hindu temples.

The ED's investigation reveals that Mangla utilized multiple shell companies and front entities to facilitate the supply of adulterated ghee to the temple trust, allegedly concealing the true nature of the product throughout the transaction process. The structural arrangement suggests a deliberate effort to circumvent quality checks and regulatory oversight.

The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing case, which has drawn considerable public attention given the religious and cultural significance of the Tirumala temple. The incident has raised serious questions about quality control mechanisms in procurement processes for major religious institutions.

The investigation into the broader network of accused individuals and entities involved in sourcing and distributing the adulterated ghee continues.
