The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at multiple premises in Hyderabad and Kadapa on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into the 2019 murder of former Congress MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy. The searches were conducted under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The operation stems from chargesheets filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the high-profile case. Officials said the ED is focusing on tracing and examining financial transactions that may be linked to the murder and related activities.
Vivekananda Reddy, a prominent political figure from Andhra Pradesh, was found murdered in his residence in Pulivendula in March 2019. The case had attracted significant attention given his political stature and the circumstances surrounding his death.
The ED's intervention marks an expansion of the investigation beyond the CBI's criminal probe into financial aspects of the matter. Authorities have indicated that the money laundering angle is being examined to establish any financial networks or transactions connected with those accused in the case.
The searches are ongoing and officials are expected to file their findings with the PMLA authorities in due course.
