Education experts urge shift from exam-focused learning to real-world skills

Bangladesh's education system has long prioritized examination results as the primary measure of student success, a practice that critics argue fails to equip young people with the competencies needed for modern employment and civic engagement.

Educational specialists contend that the current exam-centric model leaves students ill-prepared for the complexities of the real world, limiting their ability to think critically, solve problems collaboratively, and adapt to rapidly changing work environments. The emphasis on standardized testing and memorization, they argue, stifles creativity and independent thinking during formative years.

Advocates for educational reform point to successful models in other countries where curricula incorporate practical skills training, project-based learning, and exposure to diverse career pathways alongside traditional academic subjects. Such approaches, they suggest, better prepare students for entrepreneurship, professional advancement, and meaningful participation in society.

Educators emphasize that meaningful reform would require coordination among policymakers, curriculum developers, and educational institutions to gradually transition toward a more balanced system. This shift would maintain academic rigor while incorporating workplace readiness, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities that employers increasingly demand.

The call for educational transformation reflects growing recognition that Bangladesh's future economic competitiveness depends on developing a workforce equipped not merely with examination credentials, but with practical skills and adaptive capabilities for an evolving global economy.
