PUTRAJAYA — School closure and reopening decisions triggered by haze conditions will be made in consultation with multiple government agencies, the Education Ministry said on Friday.

The ministry coordinates with the Malaysian Meteorological Department, Health Ministry, and the National Response and Recovery Plan (NRES) to determine when air quality reaches levels that warrant temporary school closures for student safety.

This multi-agency approach ensures decisions are based on scientific data and health assessments rather than individual assessments, according to the ministry's statement. The framework allows for swift action when air quality deteriorates while minimising unnecessary disruptions to the school calendar.

School administrators have been instructed to monitor official announcements from coordinating agencies and implement closure directives promptly. Parents and students are advised to check official channels for real-time updates on school status during haze episodes.

The approach reflects growing concern over transboundary haze affecting the region, which has periodically disrupted educational activities across Malaysia in recent years.
