Education Ministry launches monsoon preparedness drive for SPM students

KUALA NERUS — The Education Ministry has unveiled a comprehensive contingency programme to protect SPM candidates from potential monsoon-related disruptions during the examination period. The Deputy Director-General of the ministry outlined the enhanced preparedness measures during a briefing in Kuala Nerus, emphasising the importance of ensuring examination schedules proceed smoothly despite anticipated heavy rainfall and flooding risks across the region.

Operation Payung encompasses multiple safeguards designed to shield students from weather-related obstacles. The ministry has coordinated with relevant agencies to identify vulnerable examination centres and develop alternative contingency plans, including backup venues and modified scheduling protocols should flooding affect designated facilities.

Schools in flood-prone areas have been instructed to review their infrastructure and implement necessary reinforcements ahead of the monsoon season, which typically extends from November through March. The ministry has also directed examination boards to prepare alternative assessment arrangements for candidates in affected regions, ensuring equitable access to sitting for their qualifications.

Education officials have urged state education departments to maintain regular communication with schools and monitor weather forecasts closely. Parents and students have been advised to stay informed about any potential changes to examination arrangements through official ministry channels and their respective schools.
