MANILA—As the Philippines observed World Teachers' Day on Monday, education reform advocates renewed calls for the government to address longstanding concerns affecting the teaching profession, including inadequate compensation, excessive workloads, and insufficient staffing levels.

The reform group emphasized that improving conditions for educators is essential to achieving quality education standards across the country. Among their key demands are higher salaries for teachers, reduction of non-teaching administrative burdens, improved benefits packages, and complete implementation of the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers, the law designed to protect and promote teacher welfare.

"Quality education begins with teachers who are respected, protected, adequately compensated, supported, and empowered," advocates stressed in calling for immediate government action.

The appeal comes amid ongoing concerns about teacher retention and morale in Philippine public schools, where educators often face multiple responsibilities beyond classroom instruction. Education officials have yet to issue a formal response to the reform group's demands.
