Effective leadership rooted in teamwork, trust: President's Counsel

Leadership success depends on teamwork, mutual trust, and recognizing the strengths of others, according to President's Counsel Saliya Pieris, who delivered the keynote address at St. Joseph's College, Colombo's Prefects' Investiture Ceremony for 2026/27.

Speaking as Chief Guest at the prestigious independent school event, Pieris outlined core principles for effective leadership in institutional settings. He stressed that leaders must move beyond individual pursuits and instead build frameworks centered on collaborative effort and shared responsibility.

The distinguished legal professional highlighted the importance of acknowledging and leveraging the capabilities of team members, emphasizing that credit for achievements should be distributed among all contributors rather than concentrated in individual hands. This approach, he suggested, creates stronger organizations and more sustainable leadership outcomes.

The investiture ceremony marked the formal installation of student prefects tasked with leadership roles during the academic year, providing them with guidance on navigating their positions of responsibility within the school community.
