Egypt, Morocco and Senegal each claimed difficult away victories in their respective Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches, underlining their credentials as strong contenders for the continental tournament. Algeria, another tournament favourite, was forced to dig deep after falling two goals behind against Burundi in their qualifier. The North African side mounted a determined second-half comeback to secure a draw, avoiding what would have been a significant upset in the qualification race.
