Eight dhaba operators have been booked by authorities for unauthorisedly removing crash barriers on the Delhi-Dehradun corridor, according to reports. The eatery owners allegedly cut through the safety barriers to create unauthorised entry and exit points for their establishments.
The incident came to light when an NHAI team arrived at the site to restore the damaged barriers. The operators are reported to have obstructed the restoration work, preventing highway personnel from completing their assigned task.
The removal of crash barriers poses significant safety risks to commuters on the busy corridor connecting Delhi and Dehradun. The unauthorised access points created by the dhaba owners compromise the structural integrity of road safety mechanisms designed to protect vehicles and passengers.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the eight operators under relevant sections. The NHAI has emphasised the importance of maintaining highway infrastructure and safety standards, warning against any unauthorised modifications that could endanger public safety on national highways.
