Eight pilgrims killed as car swept into flooded stream in MP

A tragic accident claimed eight lives in Madhya Pradesh's Agar Malwa district on Monday when a vehicle carrying pilgrims was swept into a rain-swollen stream. The car was washed away after heavy downpours caused a seasonal nala, or drainage channel, near a local temple to overflow.

The victims were devotees traveling to Nalkhed for darshan, or a visit to the shrine. According to local authorities, the vehicle attempted to cross the flooded stream near the Baglamukhi temple area when the sudden surge of water overwhelmed the car, carrying it downstream.

The district administration has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials said the heavy rainfall that triggered the flooding was part of the ongoing monsoon season in the region. The bodies of all eight occupants were recovered from the stream by emergency responders.

The incident underscores the dangers posed by flooded waterways during monsoon months, when seasonal nallas can swell rapidly without warning. Authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution when crossing low-lying areas and flooded streams during periods of heavy rain.
