Eight packages of the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project are on track to achieve practical completion certificates before the end of the year, signalling accelerated progress on the major infrastructure initiative. The packages collectively cover 161.8 kilometres of the 2,700-kilometre expressway that will eventually link Kunak in the south to Kota Belud in the north.
The Pan Borneo Highway represents one of East Malaysia's most ambitious infrastructure undertakings, designed to improve connectivity across Sabah and reduce travel times between key towns and economic centres. The completion of these eight packages will open substantial sections of the route to public use, enhancing regional accessibility and supporting economic development across the state.
The practical completion certificates indicate that the respective highway sections have reached operational standards and are nearing readiness for handover and public access. Beyond this year-end milestone, additional packages totalling 161.8 kilometres are expected to receive their certificates of practical completion in the following year, continuing the project's phased rollout.
The Pan Borneo Highway project has been implemented in multiple phases and packages to manage construction complexity and costs while maintaining construction momentum. As sections progressively open, they are anticipated to yield tangible benefits for logistics, commerce, and travel efficiency across Sabah's interior and coastal regions.
