Ejercito denies 2027 budget allocated for Duterte impeachment trial

Senator JV Ejercito, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, categorically denied allegations that the 2027 national budget is being diverted to cover expenses related to Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial.

"There's no truth to that; nothing like that is happening," Ejercito said, asserting his position as the senator most aware of budget allocations and fiscal matters.

The denial comes amid ongoing political tensions surrounding Duterte, who has faced calls for her removal from office. Ejercito's statement as budget committee chair carries significant weight, as the Senate finance panel oversees the scrutiny and approval of the national budget.

The senator's remarks appear aimed at quelling speculation that impeachment-related costs are being factored into fiscal year 2027 appropriations. Budget transparency remains a key concern for lawmakers and the public as Congress prepares its spending plans for the coming years.
