An elderly Malaysian man has lost RM317,000 after being targeted by scammers posing as traditional healers offering fortune-telling and luck-cleansing services.
The victim, believed to be in his 70s, was initially approached by an unidentified woman believed to be of Chinese nationality. The woman befriended the senior citizen before introducing him to an elaborate scheme involving supernatural remedies to allegedly remove bad luck.
The scammers convinced the victim to part with substantial sums of money under the pretense of performing rituals and spiritual treatments. The con artists employed psychological manipulation tactics commonly used in such schemes to maintain the victim's trust and continue extracting funds.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter. Police urged members of the public, particularly senior citizens and their families, to remain vigilant against similar scams. Residents are advised to verify the legitimacy of any individuals offering spiritual or healing services and to consult trusted family members before making significant financial decisions.
