A 70-year-old resident of Rasda in Ballia district has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the murder of his 65-year-old wife and 22-year-old blind daughter on September 17, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Ramchij Gupta, initially reported to police that unidentified persons were responsible for the deaths of the two women. However, during investigation, police uncovered evidence suggesting Gupta's direct involvement in the crime.
According to police officials, Gupta allegedly conspired with two associates to carry out the murders. The investigation revealed inconsistencies in his initial statement, prompting authorities to intensify their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
