Elderly women residents of a care facility in Kollam district recently embarked on a memorable outing to Kochi, combining rail and water transport for the day-long journey. The trip utilised the Vande Bharat semi-high speed train service, offering the group a modern travel experience as they made their way to the coastal city.
Upon arrival in Kochi, the residents experienced the Kochi Water Metro, the city's innovative waterway-based public transport system that has become a popular tourist attraction. The excursion provided the elderly participants with an opportunity to explore new modes of transport and experience the sights of Kerala's commercial hub.
The outing was jointly organised by the Kollam District Women's Council and Y's Men International, organisations committed to community welfare initiatives. District Collector Annie Jula Thomas flagged off the journey, lending official support to the initiative aimed at providing recreational opportunities for elderly residents in institutional care.
