Election commission debunks false claims about barangay poll scheduling
The Commission on Elections has alerted Filipinos to a fraudulent social media post falsely announcing December 14, 2026 as the date for barangay and youth council elections. The election authority said the misinformation originated from an unverified Facebook account.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday issued a public advisory warning citizens against circulating a fabricated social media post that incorrectly stated the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) would take place on December 14, 2026.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, Comelec identified the source of the false claim as an image shared by the unverified page "Katribu News Online." The poll body emphasized that the announcement did not originate from any official Comelec channel and urged the public to verify electoral information only through its authorized communications.
The commission has not announced an official date for the next BSKE as of the time of this advisory. Election officials stressed the importance of consulting only official Comelec announcements and verified news sources to avoid confusion regarding electoral schedules and procedures.
Comelec urged citizens to report suspected disinformation about elections to its office and to exercise caution when encountering unverified electoral claims on social media platforms. The advisory underscores ongoing concerns about election-related misinformation ahead of major polling exercises.
