Election Commission denies discord among commissioners over SIR discussions
India's Election Commission has clarified that while questions and clarifications were raised during discussions on a Special Investigation Report, no commissioner formally dissented from the final decision. The commission stressed that all three members signed the relevant orders.

The Election Commission on Monday addressed media reports suggesting differences of opinion among its commissioners regarding proceedings on a Special Investigation Report (SIR), asserting that the collegial body functioned according to established protocols.
In a statement, EC sources said that during discussions on the SIR, various questions, comments and requests for clarification were indeed raised by the commissioners. However, no commissioner filed formal dissent against the final decision reached by the body, the sources clarified.
The commission emphasized that all three members appended their signatures to the relevant orders and directives issued in connection with the matter. It further noted that its three-member structure operates on the principle of majority decision-making in cases where disagreements arise among commissioners.
The clarification comes as the commission continues to handle sensitive administrative matters that have drawn public and political scrutiny. The EC's statement underscores the distinction between internal deliberations and formal dissents, suggesting that robust discussion among commissioners is standard practice before reaching consensus decisions.
