Election Commission extends voter roll correction deadlines for Delhi, five states

The Election Commission has extended the Special Summary Revision (SIR) timelines for Delhi and five other states, giving citizens additional opportunity to file claims and objections to their voter registration status.

According to the revised schedule, Maharashtra residents can now file their claims until November 13, while Delhi voters have an extended deadline of November 25 to submit applications. The publication of final electoral rolls has been staggered, with completion scheduled for either November 30 or December 22, depending on the state.

The Special Summary Revision process is a periodic review conducted by the Election Commission to update and correct the voter rolls. During this period, citizens can file claims to be added to the electoral register, lodge objections against existing entries, or seek corrections to their existing registration details.

Electoral officials had initially set tighter deadlines but reconsidered the timeline following representations from various stakeholders, including state election authorities and voter advocacy groups. The extended period aims to ensure maximum participation in the electoral process and reduce instances of incomplete or inaccurate voter registrations.

Voters are advised to contact their local election offices or visit the official Election Commission portal to file their claims and objections within the stipulated deadlines. Proper documentation, including proof of residence and identity, will be required to process applications.
