The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of voter registers in four states and two union territories, marking a significant administrative exercise aimed at updating electoral records. The exercise will cover Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, and Sikkim, along with the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, with the revision process commencing on November 30.
The SSR is designed to streamline electoral rolls by incorporating recent changes in voter eligibility and demographics across the specified regions. This comprehensive revision represents the Commission's effort to maintain accurate and current voter databases essential for conducting free and fair elections.
The announcement comes as the ECI continues implementing its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process across various electoral jurisdictions. The SIR initiative, which has drawn scrutiny from observers and stakeholders, runs concurrently with the newly announced SSR exercise.
The Election Commission has emphasized the importance of these periodic revisions in ensuring that electoral rolls accurately reflect eligible voters in each constituency. Citizens in the affected states and union territories are expected to participate in the verification and enrollment process during the designated period.
