The Election Commission of India has constituted a team of 11 nodal officers to manage various administrative aspects of the upcoming 2027 Manipur Assembly elections. The appointments are part of standard electoral preparatory procedures to ensure smooth conduct of the polls in the northeastern state.
Senior IPS officer Kamei Angam Romanus has been designated as the nodal officer overseeing law and order and the security plan for the elections. His appointment reflects the critical importance of maintaining peace and security during the electoral process in Manipur, which has witnessed civil unrest in recent times.
IAS officer Hungyo Worshang has been assigned responsibility for the excise department as a nodal officer. This designation covers regulatory and administrative matters related to excise during the election period.
The remaining nodal officers will handle various other portfolios essential to the election machinery, including coordination between state and central authorities, logistics, and implementation of electoral guidelines.
The appointment of nodal officers several years before the scheduled elections allows adequate time for planning and coordination among different government departments to ensure a transparent and efficient electoral process in Manipur.
